Fortunate Human Birth
A bumper spring crop
Strollers blossom in the park
Lucky little ones!
Precious human life!
As rare as stars in daylight
Just as quick to fade
Dawn’s light bathes the crib
Wide-eyed infant looks and sees
No time for crying
Spinning blue planet
With seven billion buddhas
Going for a ride!
Death and Impermanence
Osprey over pond
Sharp-eyed, wings fold and plummet
Death served with a splash
Fluffy baby swans
Only two left of seven
Snapping turtles’ lunch
Cherished family dog
Releasing its final breath
Suddenly a corpse
After a flood tide
Stranded fish gasp on the sand
Mouthing alien air
Karma and Interdependence
Heavy snow all day
Branch breaks and eagle’s nest falls
Blizzard of causes
The early crocus
Born of sun and soil and rain
Countless parents’ child
Just-caught fish stolen
Osprey’s loss is eagle’s gain
Bound to spar again
Ocean’s give and take
Drifting as one on tides’ breath
Bounty and debris
Samsara
The sun moves higher
Longer days warm shivered bones
Winter is coming!
Pretty, pretty woods
Trees rot, leaves rust, and soil molds
Stink hangs in the air
The glint of fool’s gold
Dismissed by high eagle’s eye
Nothing worth a dive
Base shrouded in clouds
Summit naked in the sun
One mountain rises
RECOGNIZING THIS, MAY MY MIND TURN TOWARDS THE DHARMA!
