Navy Show ‘n Tell

September 3, 2011 by dmcglauflin

Sunrise over anchored “boomer”
Where the Severn meets the Bay
Tenders ferry Mids to visit
As they learn the Navy way

Awestruck faces all turned upwards
As Blue Angels shriek the sky
Thrills and chills of high-tech dogfight
Show the crowd what taxes buy

Brass returns to cheer the home team
Fly-by heralds game as war
Bill the Goat shows off the colors
Plebes with push-ups count the score

Parading smartly as the sun sets
Bugle sounds and flag descends
Making new the old tradition
The Brigade as one attends

  • WELCOME!

This blog is one woman's contribution to a world sorely in need of more poetry. I've started by posting three collections: "Maine Girl" (inspired by growing up in the great state of Maine), "Getting Over Me" (dharma poetry about trying to live a more compassionate life), and "Lucky Enough!" (inspired by living by the Chesapeake Bay). Randoms, Rogues and Outliers is where I put other free-standing poems -- some going back decades. Finally, "On Vanishing Path" and "Being Otherwise" -- two more dharma poetry collections -- are my most recent works in progress, with poems posted here as I write them.

To get started, just click on whichever collection you'd like to read in the Categories box below. Or take pot luck and just start reading the posts from the top.

I hope you enjoy my poems but, more importantly, I hope you find joy in writing your own poetry and that you find ways to share what you write. Please let me know when you do!
